Treasure
Posted on: March 14, 2012, by : Jeremy A WalkerTo begin, I must say thank you some of my students who expressed a desire to meet today, in spite of the fact that our services were canceled. This desire indicates to me that they are hungry for the Christian experience. Meeting together for fellowship, studying the Word, and developing their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, is a fantastic passion for young believers. So again I say, Thank You!!!
Our text today comes from Matthew 12:33-37
A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit
33 “Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. 34 You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. 36 I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, 37 for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
If the treasure of a man is the existence of the Holy Spirit, then the only distinction between a “good” person, and an “evil” person is whether or not an individual has begun a relationship with Jesus Christ. We must understand that our condition of good or evil is nothing that we, as mere humans, can change. Our actions, words, relationships, and habits have no power to alter our true nature. An evil person will constantly produce evil, and a good person will produce good. Even if the conduct of the two individuals are similar, the root of the activity will be found out as either being good, or evil.
Can a man who does good things, be rooted in evil?
Without a doubt, many evil people attempt to appear good on the outside, however the heart of a man reveals the true condition of a man, and the true nature will determine the eternal destination of a man.
In short, the revelation of the true nature and treasure of a person may never be known here on earth, but the Righteous Judge will reveal such a treasure to be evil or good, based on the presences or absence of the blood of Jesus Christ.
What is the true nature of your treasure?

On the first question, Can a man who does good things, be rooted in evil? does that mean can that person loose his rightousnes, if it does i think it can, if a person is saved and doesnt do anything to be a better man of God, doesnt go out in dicipleship, and forgets about Jesus i think he can because if a person doesnt at least put forth an effort i believe that God will be silent in their lives until there is a break through with that person and the Lord or the Holy Spirit.
I also believe that everybody even if they are very good people will at some point in their live will be rooted in evil, because just like when Jesus went through the 40 days of temtation with the devil, he could resist but we as human being cant, that is why we have sin, when Adam and Eve ate the fruit in the garden, it is that temptation that we as humans and Christians go through every day. But, if you are not a Christian than you are rooted in evil, they are slaves to sin.
There are parts to your comment with which I agree, However, I must make issue with the comment about the loss of salvation by way of apathy. We are in no way able to gain salvation, nor are we able to lose it. It is critical to understand also that there are some who will be intrigued with the idea of Jesus and study Him, but never know Him.
